I began my 30 day experiment with the Carnivore Diet today. Most of this day was spent getting my head straight and figuring out the eating. I only had ground beef in the house, so that’s what I opted for all day. I will get some chicken and turkey as well to bring in some variety. I had been having one granola bar a day and that craving kicked in around 1:30 pm. I resisted the urge and stuck to the meat only. You can see exactly what I ate below. I drank a bunch of water today. It is always interesting to see how bloating is handled when water consumption is kept at a high level. I find that bloating decreases as water is flushed from my system. I am adding Real Salt by putting 1 teaspoon full into my mouth and washing it down with water. The extra salt is recommended because of electrolyte losses. It is NOT recommended to simply add it to your water because, as one expert says, that’s like drinking sweat.
I expect the first week of this experiment to be the most difficult judging by past experiments. Once I’ve been doing something for 1 week straight it just gets easier and easier for me.
My plan is to see how this approach works for me. If it works well, after the 30 days I will add in vegetables and the occasional starchy carb (right before weight training). If this works, I can see sticking to this long term with those added vegetables. I am also closely monitoring my blood pressure through all of this.
The carnivore diet is supposed to help with a lot of different ailments.
I started at 266.8 lbs. I am going to weigh myself daily, not because I care about the scale weight, but for scientific reasons. I want to see how my weight fluctuates each day when measured at the same time each day.
What I Ate and Drank
|6 am||I drank 44 ounces of water and added 1 teaspoon of Real Salt. The electrolytes will be needed as I deplete.|
|8 am||I ate 3 eggs and 4 ounces of ground beef. I had Bulletproof coffee (10 oz of coffee, 1 teaspoon of Keri Gold unsalted butter and 1 tablespoon of MCT oil). 44 ounces of water.|
|12 pm||I ate 8 ounces of ground beef, 2 slices of cheese. 44 ounces of water and added 1 teaspoon of Real Salt. The electrolytes will be needed as I deplete.|
|5 pm||I ate 8 ounces of ground beef. 44 ounces of water.|
|8 pm||I ate 4 ounces of ground beef. 44 ounces of water.|
|10 pm||2 Cheese Head String Cheese sticks|
I did not weight train today. I took the dog for a very long walk. I used my Apple Watch to insure my heart rate was kept at a higher number. It was a nice cardio session. My plan is to do another cardio session in the morning and then on Wednesday I will attack the weights. That will be after 2 full days on this plan, so I am hoping to feel something different. Only time will tell.
